Spray tanning can give your skin a tanned look without exposing it to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays
Spray Tanning can give your skin a tanned look without exposing it to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunless tanning products are commonly sold as lotions, creams and sprays you apply to your skin. Professional spray-on tanning also is available.
The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is the color additive dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When applied, dihydroxyacetone reacts with dead cells in the skin’s surface layer to temporarily darken the skin and simulate a tan. The coloring typically wears off after a few days.

Sunless tanners contain DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which reacts with the amino acids in the dead layer of your skin. DHA combines with the amino acids to form brown-colored melaninoids. It is not absorbed into the body and is non-toxic. DHA is derived from sugar cane and was discovered back in the 1920's. It was approved by the FDA in 1973.
Swimming in chlorinated or salt water can cause the tan to fade quicker. Normal activities such as bathing, showering or physical activities will not affect the quality of the tan.
